Third seed Thomaz Bellucci defeated No. 2 seed Juan Monaco 6-2, 0-6, 6-4 to win the 2010 Movistar Open. He also became the first Brazilian to win the Movistar Open title since Gustavo Kuerten won in 2000. This is the second ATP World Tour singles title for Bellucci.
Bellucci had a great start getting a double break to lead 4-0 in the opening set before Monaco could win a game. Monaco got a break back and held on to his serve for 2-4. However, he failed to take advantage as he handed a break to Bellucci again and the Brazilian took the first set 6-2 in just 42 minutes. But Monaco recovered and broke Bellucci thrice in the second set to take the match to the deciding third set. Bellucci got the first break in the third set to lead 3-2. He held on to his serve later and took the third set 6-4 to win the match.
Thomaz Bellucci
"It's a coincidence that Guga (Kuerten) won the title the last time the tournament was played in Santiago,"
"Guga was No. 1 in the world and I'm only starting to play in the bigger events now."
"It was a great week. I won some tough matches and I'm happy to win my second ATP [World Tour] title."
"I played better than him in the first set,"
"In the second set I didn't start very well and he took advantage and started playing better. In the third set I was able to play my game again and stay calm in the decisive moments to win the title."
Juan Monaco
"I'm upset about the loss but I want to congratulate Thomaz; he had an excellent week and deserved to win the title,"
