US Open 2009 - Draw Analysis

The final grand slam tournament of the year, the US Open will begin next week at the Flushing Meadows, NY. Five time defending champion Roger Federer hasn't lost a match at the US Open since his fourth round loss in 2003. He beat Briton Andy Murray in the final last year and his tune up for this year's tournament has been good. He won the Montreal Masters defeating World No. 4 Novak Djokovic. Federer who is in top half of the draw might meet Nikolay Davydenko in the quarterfinals. Andy Roddick, finalist at Wimbledon 2009 might meet Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals, and the winner of the match might meet Roger Federer in the semifinals. For the local fans, James Blake and Sam Querrey are in the top half of the draw.

In the bottom half of the Men's Singles draw, Andy Murray, Rafael Nadal and Juan Martin del Potro will battle for a place in the final. Andy Murray was defeated in the semifinals of the Montreal Masters. Rafael Nadal, who was dropped to No. 3 in ATP Rankings, might play players like Fernando Gonzalez and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the bottom half of the draw. Juan Martin del Potro might face Andy Murray in the quarterfinals.

In the Women's Draws, World No.1 Dinara Safina is the top seeded player at this year's tournament. Safina is a three time Grand Slam finalist, but has never won a Grand Slam title. Serena Williams and Venus Williams who played in the final of the Wimbledon 2009, will not be facing each other in the final of US Open as they are in the same half. The Williams sisters may face each other in the semi-final.
