Sony Ericsson Championships 2009 - Day 2

Caroline Wozniacki defeated Victoria Azarenka in her first round robin match on Day 2 at the Sony Ericsson Championships 2009. Wozniacki lost the first set 1-6, but rallied to take the next two and won the match 1-6, 6-4, 7-5.

In the second match, World No. 1 Dinara Safina was forced to retire from her opening round robin match against Jelena Jankovic of the Sony Ericsson Championships 2009 with a back injury. The scores are level at 1-1 in the first set when Safina retired. Safina who is having a slight lead against Serena Williams in the WTA Rankings needs to do better or match Serena's performance in the tournament to end the season as World No. 1. In the final match on Day 2, top seed Serena Williams rallied from a set down to beat sister Venus Wiliams 5-7, 6-4, 7-6(4).

Dinara Safina withdrew from the tournament due to a back injury and has been replaced by Vera Zvonareva.
